Lobotomy Bock

OOOHHH.. I had no idea what I was in for when I opened this one up! I should of already known by the shiny red label that says 10.8% alcohol content. I was already up and running with Red Horse at 7% alcohol content --- but this one. It kind of reminds me of Red Horse, but with a smoother kill and warmth all over with just two sips. Plus you don't have to drink this one with ice like a Red Horse.

Here is the quick description from the Indian Wells Brewing Co. website:
This smooth rich dark southern German doublebock is an Indian Wells Brewing Co. favorite. This 10.8% beer is powerful, but VERY easy to drink! This beer is not for the timid. A few of them and you'll feel like you've had a frontal lobotomy the next day. Consume with caution!

This is my first German doublebock and I have to say that I am enjoying it very much. What's a double bock? It's basically a dark lager brewed from high colored malts. What's interesting is that many Roman Catholic monks used to drink bocks during Lent since it provides sustenance with higher food energy and nutrients than the lighter lagers.

For sure when I'm drinking this 10.8% alcohol content bottle -- I will always remember the monks.
I rate this a 5! This definitely would make a woman look like a pro.

Red Tail Ale

Wow I feel so bad for neglecting this beer blog for a bit. I've been so busy with my day job as an e-mail guru, that it's gotten in the way of my beer quest. One of my most favoritest boys in the whole wide world sent me 12 bottles of different types of beers and I cherish each and everyone of them!

The first pick from the pack is this Red Tail Ale brewed by the Mendocino Brewing Company. Because I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area, I'm an instant supporter of this local brewery.

So what's this Red Tail Ale about? It's an amber ale and THE flagship brand for the Mendocino Brewing Company. Mine came in a 12 ounce bottle, with a strong looking bird on the label. It's alcohol content is at 6.1%.

Naturally I have been gravitating towards amber, red, pale ales -- Are you wondering what an ale is? In my own words -- umm...... it's a beer that uses ale yeast. And now if I break that down -- well we know that yeast is a live organism and let's just say some of those organisms are very helpful in making certain types of beer --- AND in this case --- the pale ale!

So ANYWAYs --- the Red Tail Ale is an amber ale -- which is from the family of pale ales. Amber ales are known to be a little bit on the darker caramel side of colors, and more bitter and hoppier.

I opened up this bottle and right off the bat -- it's got a strong smell. It's like you know it's going to be good. haha Or that's how I feel anyway. And after my first sip, I kid you not -- I kept going and drank probably 3/4ths of the bottle. It is quite GOOD! No doubt it has a strong finish, it's got bitterness -- but there's something about it that is still simple and clean. Its a bit dry towards the end, but it's easy to keep going for more. It's like a pale ale but manlier. Heck, that's what this is..... it makes me feel like a man. It makes me feel hungry too. I could go for some tacos and nachos right now. This is something I could probably drink on a daily. But I won't because my heart belongs to the Riptide Red Ale from Beach Chalet Brewery, which finishes in a more refreshing way.

This definitely isn't a normal average beer -- if I see someone drinking this I would definitely say they have class -- in a strong manly way. I really don't know why this drink has a manly essence to it.

I should create a rating system with my beer blogs --

5 for ---the beers that make women look like pros

1 for ---the beers that make women look like they don't know what they're doing.

This one --- I rate a 4!

Red Horse Beer: Ito Ang Tama

Sit back and let me pour you a bottle of Red Horse.... But drink it before it gets warm! Because of it's 7% alcohol content per 12 ounce bottle, it can get warm pretty fast. It's really not that great when its warm, so I highly suggest that you drink it when its super cold. The Red Horse beer made by the San Miguel Corporation is one of the most popular beers in the Philippines.  Because it is served super cold, it can be one of the most refreshing beers.  It's a malt liquor, that is not very bubbly and easy to drink.  It doesn't have a strong taste and not bitter at all.

Malt liquors are strong lager beers known for their high alcohol content.  Anything with over 5% alcohol content is considered a malt liquor.  Things like sugar and corn are basically added to the malt so that it BOOSTS the alcohol's strength.  I agree that the corn put into this malt liquor is exactly what it does.  I sure feel the buzz within sips of drinking a bottle of Red Horse.

Is that why it's called Red Horse?  Is that why it has a red label?  It's almost emphasizing how potent it can be.  Or as a friend of mine expressed, "You can feel your chest hair growing with Red Horse!"

If you want something refreshing and something to get you hammered, pick this up.  If you want something with a strong taste, this isn't the one to pick up.  You can find Red Horse in the Philippines, and at select Asian grocery stores in the United States.

Rolling Rock

Cheap beer is something I can't really dislike. I first heard about Rolling Rock from my older cousin who labeled Rolling Rock as a good cheap beer. Rolling Rock isn't the type of beer I usually pick up. But my cousin is right. It's cheap! So I end up picking it up anyway. It's sort of what I'll drink after finishing everything else.

It's light and can be pretty refreshing. Actually it's almost like drinking sparkling water. Or is it just me who thinks that? Is that what "Extra Pale" means? Even the bottle says "It comes from the mountain springs to you." Now, that REALLY sounds like something from a spring water bottle!

I'm biased. I'm writing this blog and drinking a bottle of Rolling Rock on one of the hottest days here in the San Francisco Bay Area. So I'll admit I'm enjoying it right now. But still not my preferred beer choice. If you like something light and want to save a few bucks, Rolling Rock will probably be just right for you. Otherwise, it's not something to die for! It gets the job done.

Remember ... drink responsibly.

Red Stripe - Hooray Beer!

This video is one of the first things that pop up when I searched for Red Stripe online. I love this commercial! One of the best I've ever seen.

I have always always enjoyed Red Stripe beer. I personally enjoy it because it is just always refreshing, especially when you have it super cold. I'm having crackers with peanut butter so maybe it's making me more thirsty. This one is a lager beer that hails from Jamaica. It comes in a short stubby brown bottle that makes it easy to handle, and personally I think it does make you cooler looking. haha

I can't say this is a beer that is the kind that I have to, have to pick up. I think it makes a great social beer. It's easy to hold, it makes you look different, and I think you'll be recognized as a regular beer drinker. It's pretty light tasting, with not so much of an aftertaste.

So ladies if you want to get the guys talking, put the Corona's down (no offense to Corona, I do enjoy it every now and then!) and put one of these in your hand. With 4.7% alcohol content, you'll still get a little bit more of the buzz you're looking for than the Corona's 4.6%.

Am I going to find a beer that I don't like? I seem to be recommending everything! My beer journey continues!
